Galway County Council / Register of Mortgages, 1903-1945
Registers of mortgages in respect of loans taken out by Galway County Council for various projects recording details such as date of deed of instruction, parties to same, such as the Office of Public Works or the National Bank Ltd., purpose for which loan was obtained, amount secured by mortgage, date when installments received, repayments (within what period, rate of interest %), special area chargeable, date when mortgage finalised, and observations. Example of mortgages:
- Aug 1900, improvements to Loughrea Union, £500 over 30 years at 3 1/4%(p2);
- Jan 1914, new fever hospital Loughrea, £1,000 over 30 years at 3 1/2 % (p3);
- Nov 1922, steam rolling Tuam Dunmore Road, £5,125 over 7 years at 1/2% under Bank rate, minimum 4% (p6);
- Sept 1932, reconstruction of County Buildings at Prospect Hill Galway, £8,000 over 15 years at 1/2% under Bank rate, minimum (p10),
- May 1933, construction of Claddagh Sathill New Road, £3,000 over 15 years at 1/2% under Bank rate, minimum 4% (p10);
- Jan 1934, furnishing & equipment of Co. Building, £3,000 over 15 years at 1/2% under Bank rate, minium 4% (p11);
- Jan 1934, provision and erection of Navigation Light on Spiddal Pier, £300 over 5 years at 1/2% under Bank rate, minimum 4% (p11);
- Oct 1935, Tuam Beet Factory Road, £12,800 over 10 years at 1/2% under Bank rate, minimum 4% (p12);
- May 1937,Unemployment Relief Acts - roads, £1,525 over 3 years at 1/2% under Bank rate, minimum 4% (p16); and
- Jan 1945, Laying new water mains in the town of Clifden to replace existing old mains, £2,050, over 25 years (p17).
