Cnoc National School (N.S.), Registers, 1885-2006
Volumes of pre-printed registers recording details of pupils registered to attend the National School. Recording pupil’s full name, dated of entrance, register number, date of birth, religious denomination (generally Roman Catholic), residence, position or occupation or parent or guardian (generally farmer), and the name and county of the last national school at which the pupil attended, if relevant.
For each year of attendance at the school includes the total number of days attended, class in which enrolled, date of admission to that class, and results of examination in each year, up to circa 1899. These may be recorded as 0, 1 or 2 for subjects such as Spelling, Writing, Arithmetic, Geography, Grammar, Geography, and the Girls Register also included needlework.
After 1900 the word ‘promoted’ (to next class) in usually all that is inserted in place of examination results. Also includes columns for details records of school fees paid, date pupil’s name was struck of the register, and date re-admitted.
