Galway County Council / Register of Mortgages, 1927 - 1958
Register of mortgages in respect of loans taken out by Galway County Board of Health and Public Assistance and County Council for various projects, recording details such as date of deed of instruction, parties to same, such as the Office of Public Works or the National Bank Ltd., purpose for which loan was obtained, amount secured by mortgage, date when installments received, repayments (within what period, rate of interest %), special area chargeable, date when mortgage finalised, and observations. Example of mortgages include:
- Aug 1927, Sewerage Scheme in the Town of Loughrea, £17,500, 35 years at 5 3/4% (f1);
- Aug 1934, Roundstone Sewerage, £500 over 25 years at 5 3/4% (f7);
- Dec 1945, Purchase of Dispensary residence, Athenry, £1,500 over 25 years at 4 1/4% (f17);
- Jan 1950, Extension of County Buildings, £23,000 over 25 years at 3 1/4% (f28);
- Mar 1950, Purchase of excavator and trailer, £5,500 over 10 years at 1/2 % under Governemnt Bank rate, minimum 4% (f28);
- Sept 1953, Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts, £50,000 over 35 years at rate prevailing (f39);
- Jul 1954, Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts, £100,000 over 35 years at rate prevailing (f42);
- Apr 1957, Athenry Fairs and Markets and Fair Green, £4,500 over 10 years at rate prevailing (f47);
- Apr 1957, Portumna Fire Engine Towing vehcile, £1,255 over 7 years at 5% (f47); and
- Dec 1958, Derrywee Bridge, £4,840 over 10 years at rate prevailing (f50).
